This antenna requires a tuner

While dipoles have always been my first choice as an antenna, recently I experienced a set of circumstances that would not allow for a dipole. So while looking for solution I decided to go with a Random Wire End Fed antenna but add some features and incorporate our style and construction techniques.

The Random Wire End Fed, sometimes called a "longwire", is, like all antennas, a compromise. The compromise here is that the antenna is extremely lightweight, adaptable, easy to erect and very, very stealthy but these characteristics are paid for with its efficiency and radiation properties. Nevertheless, it can be a very effective antenna system for SOTA, POTA, Field Day, or a Trail-Ready Antenna. The antenna is extremely discreet so it can be appropriate for many HOA installations. Simply raise the far end of the antenna as high as possible, connect the ground or counterpoise and connect your coax and run it as a sloper in the 40M length or Inverted L in the 80 length, this is how I use it. Other configurations can be used including Inverted Ls, Vertical, long angle Zig Zags, "V"s and rhombic.

Designed for portable use, but perfectly workable as a low power base station antenna, the matching unit is a 9:1 (450 ohm) T130-2 Powdered Iron Toroid, with trifilar winding as shown in the schematic above, set into a custom PETG Carbon Fiber blend plastic enclosure. The wire used is 22 AWG UL 1007 stranded wire which makes this antenna light, portable, flexible and easy to setup. The integrated element is 35.5 feet long, slightly longer than a 1/4 wave on 40 Meters, which allows operation on that band. The extension increases the overall length of the antenna to 71 feet which allows operation on 80 Meters. If you have the ability to extend the antenna that far, all bands 80-6 Meters are open to you. If you find yourself operating in an area that cannot support the full length of the antenna, 40 through 6 Meters are still on the table. The Random Wire End Fed is somewhat directional, with radiation mostly running in-line with the antenna. VK6SYF has an excellent web page discussing this antenna and his site also offers a great deal of fantastic information... check it out. I mine up in a sloper configuration with the apex in the west and base and ground spike in the east and the results with 10 to 15 watts can be seen in the screenshots above. I ran the 35.5 foot integrated section alone at first and then added the extension operate on 80 meters. Overall, I found it quite satisfactory. What I am going to do is add this model to my kit and when erecting a dipole is impractical or inconvenient, out of the bag it will come.

The antenna comes with a wire grounding spike that allows for grounding in the event a counterpoise is not used. Mounting points for wires are stainless steel and will not rust or corrode. The antenna collapses as shown, comes in a 9 x 7 camouflage travel bag and weighs a total of approximately 8 ounces.

Very nice antenna. Excellent support from the seller.

Got it faster than expected which was an unexpected surprise, seems to be really well thought out and put together. Waiting for some decent weather and band conditions in order to test it but from other reviews, I believe the results will be great.

Had a little bit of an issue getting this setup. Reached out to the seller and he got back to me immediately and gave me some tips to get up and running. Great service, thank you! Made my first 40m contact that night :)
