While dipoles have always been my first choice as an antenna, I recently encountered circumstances that didn't allow for one. So, while searching for a solution, I decided to go with the No Tune End Fed Half Wave antenna and incorporate some features and our style of rugged construction. This antenna comes complete and ready to use, with no kits or assembly required. The operator only needs to add a counterpoise if necessary or preferred. There is plenty of information available on End Fed Counterpoises, including AA5TB's phenomenal page.
The EFHW (End Fed Half Wave) antenna, like all antennas, is a compromise. It is extremely lightweight, adaptable, easy to erect, and very stealthy. However, these characteristics come at the expense of efficiency and radiation properties. Nonetheless, it can be a highly effective antenna system for SOTA, POTA, Field Day, or Trail-Ready operations. The antenna is discreet, making it suitable for many HOA installations. Simply raise the far end of the antenna as high as possible, connect the ground or counterpoise, and connect your coax. Make certain that the matching unit is at least 8 to 12 inches off of the ground. It can be run as a sloper, Inverted L or V, which is how it is normally used. Other configurations such as Vertical, long angle Zig Zags, "V"s, and rhombic can also be used.
The matching unit of this antenna is a 49:1 Fair-Rite FT140-43 Toroid with 2 turns primary bifilar winding, as shown in the schematic. It is set into a weatherized Flame Retardant ABS Hammond 1591 Flanged plastic enclosure with a BNC connector or a custom 3D printed enclosure made with super rugged, American made PETG Carbon Fiber (available in different colors), which comes with your choice of a SO 239 (PL 259) or BNC female connection. The wire used is 18 AWG UL 1007 stranded wire, making the antenna light, portable, flexible, and easy to set up. The radiating element is approximately 65 feet long, equivalent to a half-wave on 40 meters. This allows operation on 40 meters, 20 meters, 15 meters, and 10 meters without the need for a tuner. The EFHW is somewhat directional, with radiation mostly running in-line with the antenna. I use mine either in a sloper configuration with the apex in the west or an Inverted L with the element running north/south, using the ground anchor to elevate the enclosure at least 8 inches from the ground. The results with 10 to 15 watts can be seen in the screenshots above. With this model added to my repertoire, I don't have to erect a dipole or worry about using a tuner if it is impractical or inconvenient. The antenna comes with a grounding wire and anchor that allows for grounding in the event a counterpoise is not used. Mounting points for ground wires are stainless steel and will not rust or corrode. The antenna collapses as shown, comes in a 9 x 7 camouflage travel bag and weighs a total of approximately 14 ounces.

Great product, exactly as described and pictured. This is my 5th purchase from this person through multiple platforms. Very happy with the quality of the product. Highly recommended.

Absolutely fantastic antenna! Very well made, my second antenna from Tim Ortiz (already have his OCF dipole, which is also great) and it won't be my last!

Tim responded very quickly when I messaged him. Very well built antenna. Works great.

Bit of a delayed shipping but the quality product makes up for it. Everything is neatly 3d printed and the printed connector cover was a nice touch. Eyelet on the end of the wire could be a bit larger to fit an average karabiner but nothing a loop of string cant fix. Storage bag is well made and spacious enough for the antenna and a few accessories and adapters. All around good product.
